Agar Art is an innovative form of art, which uses agar plates as canvas and coloured bacteria as paint, to create microbial artwork under optimal cultivation. The coloured bacteria has been genetic engineered, which is called “ Transformation”. This workshop allows the students to learn and grow their own ‘paint’. At the end of this workshop, students can also ‘create’ their own agar art piece using the transformed bacteria. We hope that the students can demonstrate their creativity and problem-solving skills in this STEAM learning camp.
What will you learn?
- Introduction of DNA and genetic engineering
- Principles of transformation
- What is plasmid DNA
Lab techniques
- Make selective & non-selective agar
- Pour petri dishes
